HR Generalist
Job purpose
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on HR Generalist who can take ownership of recruitment and the wider day-to-day HR function.
This is an individual-contributor role for someone comfortable carrying out the work personally, from sourcing and interviewing candidates to developing job descriptions, setting KPIs, supporting performance management and handling employee relations.
Key responsibilities
- Recruitment and onboarding
- Manage the full recruitment cycle across different departments, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, selection and offer management.
- Work with hiring managers to understand their requirements and develop clear recruitment plans.
- Build talent pipelines for current and future vacancies.
- Improve job adverts, candidate communications and employer-branding activities.
- Manage onboarding and help new employees settle into their roles successfully.
- Monitor recruitment results, including time to hire, source effectiveness and candidate quality.
- Organisational and job design
- Work with senior leadership to review team structures as the business develops.
- Conduct job analysis to ensure that roles, responsibilities and reporting lines are clear.
- Recommend practical improvements to workflows, responsibilities and team structures.
- Help departments identify staffing gaps and future workforce requirements.
- Job descriptions and KPIs
- Create and update accurate job descriptions for roles across the company.
- Work with department heads to develop clear, measurable and realistic KPIs.
- Ensure that responsibilities and performance expectations are properly documented and communicated.
- Review KPIs periodically to ensure they remain relevant to business priorities.
- Performance management
- Develop and manage a consistent performance management process.
- Support managers with goal setting, probation reviews, appraisals and employee feedback.
- Monitor performance trends and prepare useful reports for management.
- Help managers address underperformance fairly and promptly.
- Support the preparation and administration of performance improvement plans.
- Contribute to succession planning and employee-development initiatives.
- Employee relations and HR compliance
- Act as a professional and approachable point of contact for employee concerns.
- Advise managers on employee relations, performance, attendance and conduct matters.
- Conduct or support workplace investigations, disciplinary procedures and grievance processes.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with sound judgement.
- Keep employee records accurate and up to date.
- Help ensure HR policies and practices comply with applicable employment legislation and health and safety requirements.
- Draft, review and implement company policies and HR procedures.
Requirements
- At least three to five years of progressive, hands-on HR experience.
- Strong experience in end-to-end recruitment.
- Practical experience in performance management; experience in job design and KPI development is a plus.
- Experience handling employee relations matters, including performance concerns, grievances and disciplinary procedures, is a plus.
- Confidence using HR information systems, Microsoft Office and Excel to work with HR data; experience using performance-management platforms is a plus.
- Fluent spoken and written English is essential.
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related subject, or equivalent professional experience, is preferred.
