About Harbor Behavioral Health

HBH is a community-based behavioral health organization rooted in Lexington, Kentucky, with a growing presence in Hopkinsville. We provide structured, team-based services to adults with serious mental health needs, most of whom live in personal care homes. Our Therapeutic Rehabilitation Program (TRP) pairs licensed clinical staff with Peer Support Specialists in a collaborative, recovery-focused model.

The goals of TRP include helping clients with: improving daily living skills, self-monitoring of symptoms and side effects, emotional regulation skills, crisis coping skills, and interpersonal skills. Its purpose is to reduce the effects of the mental illness and bring the client back to their best possible level of functioning.

The Job

We're hiring a full-time LCSW for our Hopkinsville program. You’ll be on site full time, averaging five days a week. Your schedule is set in writing when you’re hired. Your salary also covers one extra day a month when we need coverage. No on-call and no productivity quota.

What you'd actually do

  • Lead groups most days, alongside our Certified Social Workers (CSWs) and Peer Support Specialists, and spend real time with clients at our program.
  • Own the clinical side of each client's record: intakes, assessments, treatment plans, prior authorizations, renewals, appeals and calls with insurance reviewers. Our CSWs do much of this work; you review it and sign it.
  • Co-sign our CSWs' notes within 2 business days and write Medicaid’s monthly note for each of their clients.
  • Supervise our Peer Support Specialists (two meetings a month each).
  • Use our note-checker and other AI tools to make paperwork faster.
  • Our Hopkinsville site lead runs your performance reviews, and you'll work directly with Harbor's owner.

How this job will change

We're growing, so we tell you up front how this job will change:

  • Your days may change. We keep your schedule as consistent as we can, but it may change month to month as the program grows. We’ll tell you before the new month starts.
  • Now and then, cover our Lexington program, with mileage and lodging paid.
  • We are looking to expand to Northern Kentucky in 2027, so you may need to travel/extended commute temporarily while we hire locally.

Requirements

  • What you need
  • An active, unrestricted Kentucky LCSW license, today. We can't wait on a new license or a transfer from another state.
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and current auto insurance
  • Comfort using AI tools in your daily work (drafting, organizing, summarizing)

- Strong clinical judgment, assessment and documentation skills

  • Ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team
  • A plus
  • Already enrolled with Kentucky Medicaid and credentialed with the Medicaid health plans, so you can bill from week one. If you're not, we start that paperwork the day you accept.
  • Approved by the Kentucky Board of Social Work to supervise CSWs, or close to it (2 years as an LCSW plus the Board's course).
  • Experience working with adults with serious mental illness
  • Familiarity with Kentucky Medicaid documentation and prior authorizations
  • Newly licensed LCSWs are encouraged to apply.

Employment is contingent on successful completion of all HBH pre-employment requirements, including background, registry and federal exclusion checks; drug and health screenings; license and education verification; and reference checks.

Core Values

Lots of companies mention core values at orientation and never bring them up again. This is NOT the case at HBH.

We talk about them and practice them daily (with varying levels of success). So please be aware of them, ask about them, and know we will be holding ourselves to them (the owner included, and especially). They are:

  • Responsibility - different than blame, focused on learning
  • Curiosity - holding your opinions lightly
  • Candor - speaking your unarguable truth, not withholding from others
  • Agreements - making clear ones, cleaning up broken ones

For more details about these commitments, see the book "The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership". You'll be getting a copy at orientation.

Many people have left the company or been asked to leave because they (or we) realized they weren't interested in living these values...which means all we've got left are people who are. If you're one of them, you'll love this work environment.
