About this role
You're building the software that makes traditional engineering workflows obsolete.
Aran is automating the design and engineering of data centers and industrial megaprojects. Our engineers are building generative engines that turn physical constraints into complete engineering deliverables. Your job is to make these engines work together as one coherent platform.
You'll work directly with engineers who understand the physics and help translate their knowledge into reliable, scalable software. You'll own everything from computational engines and AI agents to the interfaces our engineers and customers use.
Nobody hands you a spec, and there's no product manager between you and the people using your software. You find the gaps, decide what to build, ship it and keep iterating until it works. You own the product, not a ticket queue.
This isn't a role where you build dashboards around an LLM. You're building software that designs things that actually get constructed.
How you’ll work
You run the whole loop yourself:
- Find the gap. Spend time with our civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers and our architects. See where they lose hours, and decide what to fix first.
- Build it. Scope it, design it and write it, from the engine to the interface.
- Ship it. Put it in engineers' hands on real projects in days, not quarters.
- Iterate. Watch how it's used, check whether it made them faster, and keep going until it did.
What you’ll achieve
- Build the core engineering platform connecting civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural design.
- Optimize physics models, build computational geometry systems, automate workflows, and make engineering feel like magic.
- Build AI agents that can reason across engineering documents, drawings, calculations, specifications, and design constraints.
- Create workflows that transform project requirements into coordinated 3D models, engineering calculations, and construction documentation.
- Build robust interfaces and infrastructure that make complex engineering accessible, auditable, and repeatable.
- Ship production software continuously and own each feature end to end: from the first conversation with an engineer or customer, through launch, to the next iteration.
What success looks like
- Our engineers are faster on real projects because of tools you built.
- Most of what you ship comes from gaps you found, not tickets someone wrote.
- What you shipped keeps getting better after launch, because you kept watching how it was used.
- At least one thing on our list didn't get built, because you showed us something that mattered more.
Requirements
- You must
- Be an exceptional software engineer who has built and shipped real products end-to-end.
- Understand systems deeply — data structures, algorithms, architecture, and how to make complex software reliable.
- Be comfortable working across the stack, from backend systems and computational engines to user-facing products.
- Be highly proficient with AI coding agents and capable of moving dramatically faster because of them.
- Have the curiosity to learn engineering fundamentals, physical constraints, and how the built world works.
- Own the product, not just the code. You talk to the people using it, decide what matters, and ship without waiting for a spec.
- Have product judgment: you know what not to build, cut scope to ship sooner, and build on each win.
- You do not need to
- Have a background in civil, mechanical, electrical, or structural engineering.
- Have worked in construction or data centers.
- Have a specific degree or pedigree.
- Know every framework or programming language.
- Experience with computational geometry, CAD/BIM, simulation, physics engines, developer tools, or complex technical software is particularly interesting.
- This role isn't for you if
- You'd rather work from a well-scoped ticket than figure out what to build.
- You want a product manager, designer and QA team between you and the people using your software.
Benefits
Full-time | Remote (US or Canada, excluding Quebec) | US$200k–$300k or CA$285k–CA$430k base + founding-team equity
Fully compensated health plans with 100% dependent coverage.
We hire across the experience spectrum. Proof that you build beats years on a resume.
