Remote Tekla Steel Detailer - Custom Stairs, Railings & Structural Steel

About this role

We are looking for an experienced Tekla Steel Detailer to support a U.S. steel fabrication company specializing in structural steel, custom stairs, railings, and architectural metalwork.

This remote position is ideal for someone who understands how steel is fabricated and installed and can translate architectural and structural drawings into accurate Tekla models and complete shop drawing packages.

Experience detailing stairs, railings, and miscellaneous steel is particularly important, along with the ability to work independently and communicate effectively with a U.S. team.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D models in Tekla Structures for custom stairs, railings, landings, brackets, structural framing, and related steel components.
• Produce shop drawings, assembly drawings, single-part drawings, erection drawings, and material lists.
• Interpret architectural and structural drawings, project specifications, and field measurements.
• Detail connections, plates, anchors, bolts, and welds in accordance with approved engineering information and fabrication standards.
• Coordinate steel components with adjacent materials, including glass, wood, and concrete.
• Identify missing information or conflicting dimensions and prepare clear requests for information.
• Incorporate approval comments, field updates, and design revisions into models and drawings.
• Review deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and fabrication and installation requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams throughout the detailing process.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of steel detailing experience , with strong proficiency in Tekla Structures .
• Demonstrated experience detailing steel stairs, railings, and miscellaneous metals .
• Previous experience supporting U.S. steel fabrication or construction projects .
• Ability to independently develop fabrication drawing packages from architectural and structural documents.
• Practical understanding of steel fabrication, connections, welding symbols, tolerances, and installation considerations.
• Familiarity with imperial measurements and U.S. steel detailing conventions.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Ability to manage revisions, meet deadlines, and coordinate with a team during U.S. Eastern Time business hours.
• A portfolio showing relevant Tekla models and shop drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with custom architectural steelwork, exposed steel, and high-end residential projects.
• Experience detailing structural framing, including beams, columns, and bracing.
• Experience with stainless steel, aluminum, or other architectural metals.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and producing CNC/NC or DXF files for fabrication.
• Experience working directly with steel fabricators and addressing shop or field questions.
