About this role
Bank | 5–40 Hours per Week (Part-Time to Full-Time) | Fully Remote | Some Evening and Weekend Working Required
We're looking for a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) or HCPC-registered Dietitian to join our bank team as an Assessment Specialist at one of the UK's most exciting health-tech companies.
In this role, you'll assess people living with obesity as they enter our service, helping to decide which intervention pathway suits them best. You'll work as part of a multidisciplinary team within our Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS).
This is a fully remote role. All assessments take place over video call, and you can be based anywhere in the UK. You can choose anything from 5 hours a week up to full-time (40 hours/week) within our operational hours. Flexibility is required to support some early evenings and Saturdays as and when needed to support our NHS contracts.
The Challenge
More than 1 in 4 adults in the UK are living with obesity; a chronic condition that often negatively impacts their physical and mental health, and therefore quality of life. Access to specialist weight management services for the treatment of obesity remains limited and varies geographically due to a lack of funding. Existing services face long waiting lists, resulting in treatment delays which can adversely affect patient outcomes.
Enter Second Nature...
By bringing together the latest behavioural science, psychology, technology, and the talents of our incredible team, our mission is to eradicate obesity and type 2 diabetes for all, and as part of that mission, we are aiming to increase access to effective treatment for people living with obesity.
Second Nature provideså specialist weight management services to support people living with obesity. We are looking for a Bank Assessment Specialist to join our multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to support our patient assessment process.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in growth of specialist weight management services in a fast-pace, startup environment.

The role
We're looking for a dynamic Assessment Specialist who is passionate about making a positive difference to those living with obesity. You'll join our bank staff in response to increased service demand. You will be part of an innovative Specialist Weight Management Service (SWMS) that uses a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) approach to obesity treatment and technology to optimise patient engagement and outcomes.
Our MDT includes doctors, dietitians, psychologists and physical activity specialists, all with special interests in obesity.
The main focus of this role is assessing patients as they enter our service. You'll run assessments over video call and gather detailed patient information to inform clinical decisions and find the most suitable intervention pathway. Where needed, assessments will include risk assessments for suicidal ideation/self-harm. You'll need to be able to work on your own, and you'll have access to clinical supervision and support from a Practitioner Psychologist.
This is a bank contract running from November to March, with the possibility of extending depending on the needs of the service. You can work anything from 5 hours a week up to full-time (40 hours/week). Flexibility is required to support some early evenings and Saturdays as and when needed to support our NHS contracts.

- Attend regular MDT meetings to discuss assessments and monitor the care of our patients
- Attend clinical supervision with a Practitioner Psychologist to discuss complex or high-risk cases
- Appropriately manage clinical risk (e.g. safeguarding concerns) when it arises during assessments
- Maintain confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and ensuring that participant confidentiality is protected at all times

- A solid understanding of obesity as a condition and the issues many people living with obesity face, including weight stigma
- Able to provide supportive, empathetic patient-centred care to patients who may have complex physical and mental health needs
- You're comfortable working fully remotely
- You enjoy remote working and can stay motivated and organised without an office around you
- You have a suitable home working setup, including a private space for confidential consultations and a reliable internet connection
- You can work autonomously and collaboratively with a doctor-led multidisciplinary team (MDT) to ensure patients are correctly assessed and allocated to intervention pathways
- You'll confidently and independently manage a caseload of patients for assessment, escalate relevant issues to our MDT and work closely with them
- You are dynamic and have a strong drive to work in healthcare tech
- You have experience thriving in fast-paced environments and are energised by the dynamic nature of start-up life, where being hands-on and adaptable to the evolving needs of the service is essential
