About this role

We’re seeking a driven, hands-on Director of Operations to lead the day-to-day execution of a high-volume 503A mail-order compounding pharmacy serving patients and providers nationwide.

This is a role for a builder and problem-solver — someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, sees around corners, and relentlessly optimizes systems. You’ll oversee all pharmacy operations, from sterile compounding to fulfillment and shipping, ensuring compliance, efficiency, and scalability as we continue rapid growth.

If you’re the kind of leader who takes ownership, loves solving bottlenecks before they become problems, and builds teams that run like clockwork, this is your role.

Operational Leadership

  • Lead daily operations across compounding, packaging, fulfillment, and shipping teams.
  • Design and improve workflows to increase speed, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Monitor throughput and proactively address any bottlenecks or production risks.
  • Manage multi-shift schedules to ensure proper coverage and productivity.
  • Drive capacity expansion through automation, new equipment, and facility buildouts.

Compliance & Quality

  • Partner with the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to ensure full compliance with USP , , , DEA, DSCSA, and state regulations.
  • Maintain multi-state pharmacy licenses and ensure inspection readiness at all times.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Compliance teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor pharmacists, compounding techs, fulfillment staff, and support teams.
  • Build a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Create and maintain training programs and SOPs to standardize best practices.

Production & Fulfillment

  • Oversee sterile and non-sterile production schedules to meet demand without sacrificing quality.
  • Manage raw materials, packaging, and shipping inventory to prevent shortages.
  • Ensure reliable and compliant shipping across multiple states, including cold chain and hazardous materials handling.

Performance & Process Optimization

  • Track and report KPIs such as order accuracy, turnaround time, and error rates.
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to eliminate waste and boost output.
  • Drive adoption of technology, automation, and workflow software to scale operations efficiently.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Finance to manage budgets and monitor cost per script.
  • Work with Credentialing and Licensing teams to support new market expansions.
  • Support Business Development with operational readiness for onboarding new providers and patient populations.

Qualifications

  • -
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in pharmacy operations, healthcare, or regulated manufacturing (503A/503B experience preferred).
  • Proven track record managing high-volume, multi-state mail-order or specialty pharmacy operations.
  • Strong understanding of USP //, DEA, DSCSA, and state board regulations.
  • Skilled at leading cross-functional teams across multiple shifts and locations.
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, workflow tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Competitive salary
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
