About GigSafe
GigSafe is a contractor management platform built for gig and last-mile delivery operations. We are building infrastructure for the future of 1099 work that helps companies verify, manage, and pay independent contractors at scale.
The 1099 economy is the fastest-growing segment of the American workforce, and it's been running on duct tape and spreadsheets. A credentialing gap or an uninsured worker is a serious liability that can shut down a business.
This is a big problem. A large market. And we're early. Come build with us. For more information, visit gigsafe.com
Role Overview
We are looking for a Product Designer to turn product requirements into flows, wireframes, and production-ready interfaces. You’ll also help shape how GigSafe looks and feels across product and brand. You will be the design partner to our Product and Engineering teams, taking problems that arrive as specs and operational constraints and shipping the screens contractors, fleet operators, and compliance teams use every day.
This is a hands-on IC role. Product sets the direction, and you’ll own the how. That means exploring options, making sound interaction and visual decisions on your own, and producing work engineers can build from without a long back-and-forth. You’ll also help evolve our design system and brand so everything we ship feels consistent. We expect you to use AI tools as part of your normal workflow, for concepting, prototyping, and production UI.
This is an individual contributor role reporting to the Head of Product, on a small, fast-moving team. There’s real room to grow into design leadership as the team scales.
Responsibilities
- Translate product requirements into user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces ready for engineering handoff.
- Explore multiple design directions before converging on a solution. Research references and relevant patterns, and turn inspiration into designs that work.
- Design for complex, data-dense workflows across web, mobile-first, and responsive experiences: onboarding queues, document and credential review, compliance status, exception handling, and admin tooling.
- Build clickable prototypes quickly, using AI-assisted tooling wherever it speeds you up, so flows can be tested and decisions made before engineering time is spent.
- Maintain and extend GigSafe’s design system. Spot gaps and inconsistencies and propose improvements, so the product stays cohesive as it grows.
- Help maintain GigSafe’s brand across product and marketing. That includes building reusable, AI-friendly templates and guidelines that let the marketing team create on-brand assets on their own.
- Prepare specs, states, and assets so engineers aren’t guessing. That includes empty, loading, error, and permission states.
- Partner daily with Product and Engineering to scope what’s feasible, pressure-test edge cases, and stay involved through implementation and QA.
- Run user interviews and review session recordings to find friction and usability issues, then fold what you learn back into the designs.
- Take part in design reviews, giving and receiving critique to keep quality and consistency high.
Qualifications
- -
- 5–8 years of UX/UI or product design experience, with a portfolio of shipped software, not concept work.
- A diverse portfolio covering different products and project types, including web apps, mobile-first apps, and responsive experiences.
- Strong visual and interaction craft: typography, layout, hierarchy, spacing, and consistency. You can take a rough requirement to a clean, buildable screen without heavy art direction.
- Strong ideation skills. You can show how you explored several directions and why you landed where you did.
- Understanding of platform-specific design patterns and how to adapt solutions to different users, contexts, and devices.
- Hands-on experience with user research, including interviews and behavior or session-recording analysis.
- Demonstrated fluency with AI design and prototyping tools as part of your everyday workflow. Be ready to walk us through how you used them on real work and what you produced faster because of it.
- Experience designing for operational complexity: dashboards, queues, tables, forms, and multi-step workflows.
- Comfortable working from written specs and asking sharp questions when they’re incomplete.
- Strong in Figma (components, variants, auto layout). If you came up in Sketch, Framer, or Penpot, tell us why. We care that you can pick up our stack quickly.
- Ability to manage several concurrent workstreams and ship on a regular cadence without heavy process.
- You can clearly explain a design decision to an engineer or a non-designer.
- Preferred
- Experience in gig economy, contractor management, workforce, logistics, or other B2B operational software.
- Experience building or maintaining a design system from scratch.
- Brand or marketing design experience, especially building templates or systems that non-designers use.
- Experience mentoring other designers, or interest in growing into a design lead role.
- Prototyping in code (HTML/CSS, React, or AI-assisted code generation) to get closer to a real, testable artifact.
- Familiarity with compliance-heavy or document-review interfaces.
- Startup experience, especially as an early or sole designer.
