About this role

200K+ connected devices. 60+ hardware platforms. 99.99% availability. One cloud platform.

signageOS powers digital signage for global retail chains, quick-service restaurants, airports, and offices around the world.

Most software companies build applications. We build the infrastructure connecting cloud services with hardware across dozens of platforms and operating systems.

Unreliable networks, inconsistent firmware, devices going offline unexpectedly?

These aren't edge cases. They're the product.

Build systems that scale

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Backend Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, thinks independently, and takes ownership of their work.

You'll help build and evolve our distributed backend infrastructure, tackling challenges around scalability, reliability, and system architecture - with real ownership and a say in technical decisions.

Our stack

TypeScript · Node.js · MongoDB · RabbitMQ · Redis · Kubernetes · AWS · GCP · REST · GraphQL

Our backend relies heavily on asynchronous communication and event-driven architecture, with Event Sourcing and CQRS among the architectural patterns we work with.

We use Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and other AI tools to accelerate development and reduce repetitive work.

Who would thrive here

  • Strong backend background - experience building and running production services, ideally with TypeScript / Node.js.
  • Distributed systems mindset - understanding of asynchronous communication, messaging, and building reliable services.
  • Independent problem-solving - comfortable tackling complex problems and turning ideas into working solutions.
  • Sound engineering judgment - a solid understanding of system design, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Curiosity & initiative - someone who asks questions, challenges assumptions, and looks for better ways to do things.
  • Fluent in Czech or Slovak, with communicative English.

Big plus if you have hands-on experience with

  • Event Sourcing & CQRS
  • RabbitMQ, MongoDB, or Redis
  • Cloud infrastructure - although Docker experience is essential, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP can be learned along the way.

Digital signage experience isn't required. What matters is strong engineering skills and knowing how to apply them.

What you'll work on

  • Core backend services, primarily in TypeScript and Node.js.
  • Distributed systems and asynchronous communication across backend services and connected devices.
  • Event-driven architecture, including messaging, event processing, and system integration.
  • Reliability, scalability, monitoring, and failure recovery across our backend infrastructure.
  • Improving existing systems and helping shape technical and architectural decisions.
  • On-call rotation shared within the team, with additional compensation.

Why signageOS

Infrastructure, not CRUD. Build technology other software companies rely on.

Real engineering challenges. Distributed systems, asynchronous communication, and keeping infrastructure supporting 200,000+ connected devices running reliably.

Ownership & impact. Have a real say in how things are built and where the platform goes next.

Engineering over process. Small, experienced team. Minimal bureaucracy. Room to do things right.

Practical details

  • Prague 6
  • Evropská 11 (Blox Offices)
  • Flexible working hours & hybrid setup - minimum 3 days per week in the office, ideally more.
  • Reserved parking in the building garage
  • A well-equipped office where everything’s taken care of - quiet work zones, meeting rooms, a chill-out area, fully stocked fridges, Friday team lunches, and more
  • Full-time employment or freelance
  • Start date by agreement
