Giant Robots Labs is the experimental technology lab inside GovTech's Government Technology Office. Small teams, ambitious ideas, working products in front of real users fast. We are looking for a creative technologist who thinks by making: someone who can take a half formed idea and turn it into something people can actually hold, click, or argue with. The medium is open. Screens, prototypes, physical things, whatever answers the question.

What you'll do

  • Work alongside pilot teams to turn ambiguous problems and early hypotheses into tangible things people can react to.
  • Help pilots prototype at whatever fidelity answers the question fastest, from rough explorations to working product experiences.
  • Explore product and interaction directions with pilots, helping teams test alternatives and make better decisions about what to pursue.
  • Help teams get work in front of users, agency partners, and domain experts early, and turn what they learn into concrete changes to the product.
  • Bring design judgement and craft into pilots from their earliest stages through prototype and limited beta, working closely with product engineers rather than handing off designs.
  • Move across pilots as needs change, helping teams unblock difficult product and interaction problems and raising the quality of what GRL ships.
  • Develop lightweight ways of working, tools, and practices that help small pilot teams design and learn effectively without adding unnecessary process.
  • You'll thrive here if
  • You make things rather than describe what should be made. Prototypes are how you think, and you would rather learn something from a rough one in three days than defend a perfect one in three weeks.
  • You are comfortable when the right answer is not obvious yet, and you hold your own ideas loosely enough to drop them when the testing says so.
  • You pick up unfamiliar tools when a problem calls for them, including AI and whatever landed last month.
  • You enjoy moving between problem domains and do not need one product to call your own.
  • What you can expect
  • -

A wide variety of problems, products, and domains across the Singapore public sector. One quarter might be citizen facing, the next an internal tool for officers, the one after a technology nobody here has shipped before.

  • Freedom to solve the problem your way rather than delivering a predetermined set of artefacts.
  • Work across conventional and unconventional product experiences, digital and physical.
  • Close collaboration with small teams, where a design decision becomes a working prototype in days rather than quarters.
  • Direct access to the people who own the problem, from frontline officers to policy leads, instead of a brief passed down a chain.
  • Room to experiment with new tools, technologies, and approaches whenever they help us learn or build better.
  • A culture that values curiosity, craft, working prototypes, and evidence over process and artefacts for their own sake.
  • A say in both what GRL builds and how design works inside an experimental technology lab.
  • What we're looking for
  • Around 4 to 8 years in product design, interaction design, or creative technology.
  • A portfolio that shows range and product judgement, with the thinking visible, not just the final screens.
  • Evidence you build interactive prototypes rather than working only through static artefacts and specs.
  • You have run your own research or usability testing and changed the product because of what you learned.
  • Enough technical curiosity to work closely with engineers. Physical or emerging tech work, zero to one products, or public sector experience is a strong plus.

What We Offer

  • Collaborative and creative work environment
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, including opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Work environment that is fully supportive of self-improvement and personal/professional development
  • GovTech is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive workplace that values diverse voices and perspectives, as we believe it is key to innovation.
  • Our employee benefits are based on a total rewards approach, offering a holistic and market-competitive suite of perks.
  • We champion flexible work arrangements (subject to your job role) and trust you to manage your time to deliver your best.
