About this role

The Enterprise Architect is EverBlue Partners’ most senior architecture authority, accountable for the end-to-end enterprise architecture of S/4HANA transformation programs for clients in the Retail, Hard Goods, and Fashion industries.

Where the Solution Architect leads the design of complex SAP solutions within a program, the Enterprise Architect owns the cross-program, multi-year view: the target-state landscape spanning S/4HANA (GROW and RISE Private Cloud Edition), SAP BTP, Customer Activity Repository, store and POS platforms, omnichannel commerce and order management, master data, and analytics.

The Enterprise Architect partners with client C-suite and enterprise architecture functions to translate business strategy into architecture roadmaps, governs architecture decisions across concurrent workstreams and engagements, and shapes EverBlue’s architecture standards, reference architectures, and market offerings. They lead and develop EverBlue’s community of Solution Architects and play a principal role in pursuits, executive relationships, and industry thought leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Strategy and Roadmapping
  • Partner with client CIOs, CTOs, and business executives to translate business strategy (growth, omnichannel, margin, supply chain resilience) into a target-state enterprise architecture and multi-year transformation roadmap.
  • Define the overall S/4HANA deployment strategy, including GROW vs. RISE Private Cloud Edition, greenfield, brownfield, or selective data transition, rollout sequencing, legacy coexistence, and decommissioning.
  • Build business cases and architecture options analyses that quantify cost, risk, value, and time-to-benefit for executive decision-making.
  • Assess client architecture maturity, application portfolio, and technical debt; recommend rationalization and modernization priorities.
  • Architecture Governance and Standards
  • Establish and chair architecture governance (design authority / architecture review board) across programs, ensuring decisions align with clean core principles, SAP best practices, and client enterprise standards.
  • Define and enforce architecture principles, non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, availability, security), and integration and extensibility standards (side-by-side extension on BTP, key user extensibility, API-first, event-driven).
  • Own the program-level architecture decision log and architecture risk register; resolve cross-workstream design conflicts and escalate where required.
  • Provide architecture assurance at SAP Activate quality gates and lead independent architecture reviews and program health checks.
  • Landscape, Integration, and Data
  • Design the end-to-end retail landscape: S/4HANA for Retail and Fashion (merchandise and assortment management, pricing, allocation, segmentation, vendor management), CAR and sales audit, GK OmniPOS and store systems, commerce and Order Management Foundation, MDG, and warehouse and transportation management.
  • Define the enterprise integration architecture and middleware strategy (SAP Integration Suite, Event Mesh, third-party iPaaS), including interface governance and API lifecycle management.
  • Set the enterprise data architecture: master data governance and ownership, analytics and planning (Datasphere / Business Data Cloud, SAP Analytics Cloud), and data migration strategy.
  • Shape security, identity, and compliance architecture, including cross-border data considerations under GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD, and PIPEDA.
  • Evaluate and introduce emerging technologies, such as SAP Business AI and Joule, intelligent automation, and edge and in-store computing, where they deliver measurable business value.
  • Delivery Leadership
  • Serve as the senior architecture executive across a portfolio of concurrent engagements, accountable for architecture outcomes from Discover through Run and hypercare.
  • Direct and coordinate Solution Architects and technical leads across workstreams, ensuring cohesive designs and consistent delivery standards.
  • Anticipate and mitigate architecture-driven delivery risks such as performance, upgrade readiness, custom code, and cutover complexity.
  • Business Development and Practice Growth
  • Lead the architecture components of pursuits, including solution shaping, estimates, proposals, orals, and executive presentations; act as a trusted advisor who drives account expansion.
  • Develop and maintain EverBlue reference architectures, accelerators, and reusable assets for Retail, Hard Goods, and Fashion.
  • Partner with EverBlue leadership on practice strategy, offering development, and SAP and ecosystem partner relationships.
  • Represent EverBlue in the market through publications, conference speaking, SAP community contributions, and industry forums.
  • People Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop EverBlue’s architect community, including Solution Architects; define architecture career paths, competencies, and certification expectations.
  • Contribute to hiring, staffing, and performance assessment for architecture roles.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferred) or relevant work experience required.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and/or Canada without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • 20+ years of functional/technical SAP experience, including 8+ years in architecture roles, with deep Consumer Industries knowledge (Retail, Hard Goods, Fashion, Consumer Products, Wholesale Distribution).
  • Minimum 3 complete S/4HANA implementation lifecycles in a lead architect role, at least one as overall program or enterprise architect for a multi-country, multi-brand, or multi-channel rollout.
  • Hands-on experience with both GROW (Public Cloud) and RISE (Private Cloud Edition) deployment models and SAP’s clean core approach.
  • Proven experience establishing and leading architecture governance across multiple concurrent programs or a client’s enterprise.
  • Track record of advising client executives at CIO/CTO level and of leading or materially contributing to winning pursuits.
  • Active thought leadership in defined areas of expertise with verifiable publications and/or speaking engagements.
  • Preferred: TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification; SAP certifications in S/4HANA, BTP, or enterprise architecture; experience with SAP Signavio and LeanIX.
  • Core Competencies
  • Enterprise-level architecture mastery, with a proven track record of shaping and delivering multi-year SAP transformation programs.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the SAP retail and consumer industries portfolio and how it integrates with non-SAP enterprise, store, and commerce platforms.
  • Expertise in cloud deployment models, clean core extensibility, integration patterns, and data architecture at enterprise scale.
  • Ability to connect architecture choices to business outcomes, total cost of ownership, and risk.
  • Strategic and systems thinking, balancing near-term delivery needs with long-term architectural integrity.
  • Executive presence and influence, with the ability to align C-suite, business, and IT stakeholders around a shared vision.
  • Commercial acumen to shape deals, define scope, and grow client relationships.

Abilities and Skills

  • Visionary mindset that anticipates industry and SAP technology shifts and turns them into client and practice opportunities.
  • Ability to build and sustain trusted, long-term relationships with client executives and SAP partner leadership.
  • Talent builder who develops architects and consultants and strengthens EverBlue’s architecture bench.
  • Sound judgment and decisiveness when resolving complex, cross-program trade-offs.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced, multi-engagement consulting environment.
  • Excellent collaboration skills across cross-functional, multi-national, and multi-vendor teams.
